Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is OpenSeats.com?

A. OpenSeats.com is an online trading community dedicated to facilitating ticket sales between individuals. Our site brings buyers and sellers of tickets together through a convenient, user-friendly Internet site. OpenSeats.com facilitates person-to-person ticket transactions for sports and entertainment events. Welcome - we hope you find value in our service!

Q. Does OpenSeats.com sell tickets?

A. OpenSeats.com does not sell tickets directly. We provide a way for ticket sellers to advertise their tickets and ticket buyers to find tickets. OpenSeats.com does not take possession of tickets being sold or the payment for such tickets.

Q. What can I do to ensure effective ticket trading?

A. Make sure you agree on payment and delivery terms. There are several ways that buyers and sellers can exchange tickets and payments. Meeting in person in a public location is the safest method. Other methods include courier services, certified mail and regular mail (if a level of trust is established). The important thing is to be clear with your trading partner so there is no misunderstanding.

Effective October 2000, PayPal has introduced a Fraud Protection Program to give buyers and sellers more confidence in conducting transactions. Under their "Buyer Protection Guarantee," if you purchase goods (i.e. tickets) from a Verified Seller and do not receive your purchased goods, you are entitled to a full refund of your purchase amount up to $5,000 per year. However, their guarantee only applies to the receipt of goods, not the authenticity, condition or quality. If you cannot make an exchange in person, you may want to consider this program. Be sure to read the Terms of Use to understand exactly how the program can work for you. To learn more, click here.

OpenSeats' Feedback System is designed to foster confidence in the OpenSeats' trading community and facilitate effective transactions among users. Please communicate with your trading partner. Pay attention to Trading Partner Ratings and encourage their use. Check out the rating of the buyer or seller. Evaluating feedback can help you make an informed choice. Please remember to post positive ratings for your trading partner if you have had a successful experience, and conversely, negative ratings if you have had a bad experience.

Use Common Sense. Don't do business with people who make you feel uncomfortable or suspicious. If someone suggests a meeting location that is uncomfortable for you, suggest an alternative location. If you decide to use regular mail to complete a transaction, please ensure that you have adequate information about the other party before you mail either payment or the tickets.

Know what you are buying. If a description is in any way unclear, be sure to clarify the ticket description before you agree on terms.

Be courteous to other OpenSeats.com users. Being courteous will enhance your chances of getting the tickets you're looking for and finding buyers for your tickets.

Q. Will my OpenSeats.com ad work?

A. We've put forth considerable time and effort to draw people to our site for the purpose of buying and selling tickets. However, it often takes some time for an active trading market to develop. If you are not successful with your ad (or search for tickets), don't give up on us! Our effectiveness as a facilitator for ticket exchanges will increase over time as more people become aware of our service.

Q. If I register, will my personal information be kept confidential?

A. Absolutely. OpenSeats recognizes the importance of privacy. We have a strict policy against giving out personal information such as email addresses, home addresses and telephone numbers. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for more information.

Q. How much does it cost to post ads?

A. There is no charge to post a ticket ad on our site. That being said, we do request payment if you are succesful in selling or obtaining tickets through our site. If you are successful, we request a voluntary success fee of $3 per ticket to help defray our marketing costs.

Q. Where do I send my voluntary success fee?

A. Congratulations on a successful transaction! You may send your "voluntary success fee" to:
OpenSeats Inc.

3800 Golf Road.
Suite 125

A. OpenSeats allows users to delete and edit their own ads. As well, your ad will be automatically deleted after the event date passes. The Edit/Delete page gives you access to all your posted ads.

Q. What do I do if I lose my password or username?

A. It's not a problem. We'll email them to you. Click here.

Q. I've seen ads selling tickets above face value. Isn't scalping illegal?

A. No not always. In many areas of the country it is perfectly legal to sell tickets at a premium. It is the responsibility of the users of OpenSeats.com to adhere to the laws governing ticket sales in their respective states and communities. For more information, click here.
